Johnson closes gap on Middleton, race now within one point
TEXAS — Nathan Johnson has closed the gap in the race for Texas Attorney General, according to a new poll from Texas Public Opinion Research showing Republican Mayes Middleton’s lead down to just one point, 39% to 38%.
With 18% of likely voters undecided, the movement shows Johnson within easy striking distance of Middleton. Significantly, Johnson leads among independents by 8 points and moderates by 25 points, a sign that voters outside the party base are moving in his direction.
“After 30 years of Republican control, Texans are feeling the need for a change in priorities,” said Nathan Johnson, Democratic candidate for Attorney General. “Costs are rising and corruption is rampant, while personal freedoms contract and consumers feel preyed upon. The response from the other side is more culture-war noise. That might have worked in past elections. It won’t this time around. Voters will make clear this Fall that they are done with an Attorney General who uses the office as a political tool. They want one that works for them.”
