After an hours long meeting, the Tarrant County Commissioners Court voted unanimously to delay a vote on closing Election Day and early voting polling sites in the state’s third most populous county. The new vote on the potential closures will be September 1.
The Commissioners were considering a proposal from the county’s administrator on elections to reduce the number of Election Day polling sites from 316 to 176, and the number of early voting sites from 50 to 42. In 2025, the Commissioners voted 3-2 (along party lines) to cut the number of polling sites in Tarrant County for the constitutional election.
Dozens of attendees signed up to speak at Tuesday’s Commissioners Court meeting, with the majority against closing the polling locations. Some of the speakers included Lt. Governor candidate Vicki Goodwin and Attorney General candidate Nathan Johnson. At several times in the often chaotic meeting, County Judge Timothy O’Hare cleared the entire room. Former State Rep. Lon Burnam was arrested for speaking out of turn.
