A Champion for
Texas Values

Senator Nathan Johnson is a seasoned litigator and a Texas State Senator, with a proven record of effective public service. He holds a B.S. in physics from the University of Arizona and a law degree from the University of Texas at Austin. He is a litigator and mediator in the Dallas office of Thompson Coburn LLP, and has composed musical scores for the hit anime series Dragon Ball Z. Johnson is the proud father of three adult children, and enjoys swimming, reading boring books, and making peanut butter.

He brings to the Attorney General’s race both policy depth and legal expertise, along with a reputation for taking on the most difficult problems, asking the hard questions, and working to fix what’s wrong no matter who or what stands in the way. Through his four sessions in office there runs a thread of defending constitutional principles, advocating for responsible, responsive government, and insisting on fairness and consistency in the law.

Since taking office in 2019, Senator Johnson has authored approximately 433 bills and passed 134 into law. His portfolio affects virtually every aspect of public policy in Texas, including water, electrical power and growth of the grid, public education, health and healthcare (physical and mental), environmental protection and enforcement, workforce development, banking, construction, housing, artificial intelligence, law enforcement and criminal justice. His legislative record reflects a consistent emphasis on government transparency, legal clarity, and responsible use of public resources.

Some highlights include:

  • Protecting consumers and businesses by modernizing Texas law with respect to data privacy, money transfers, construction, artificial intelligence, and cybersecurity;

  • Developing, and securing $2 billion in funding, for backup systems to power essential  community facilities, like water treatment, nursing homes, and first responders;

  • By reforming the Texas health insurance marketplace, getting private health insurance for an estimated 350,000 previously uninsured Texans;

  • Removing the regulatory block on construction of promising new forms of housing;

  • Re-writing standards to avoid waste and abuse of business tax abatements;

  • Directing economic opportunity to areas that the Legislature has long neglected;

  • Overhauling outdated criminal codes to improve clarity and proper administration of justice; and

  • Promoting peace officer wellness and providing benefits to surviving family members.
