Voter registration – the first step to victory

Quick reminder: today is the very last day to register to vote in the November election.

Tell your friends, co-workers, parents, adult children, students, teachers … actually, just tell everyone you know! It takes less than five minutes to register.

› Need to check your voter registration?

› Get registered before today's deadline, then start making your voting plan.

› If you aren't yet registered to vote, download, print, and mail back your voter registration application or register to vote in person.

There’s so much on the line this election.

Our choices will shape the future on critical issues that matter to all of us, such as:

  • Restoring reproductive freedom

  • Adequately funding public education

  • Building affordable housing

  • Expanding our healthcare system and strengthening the ACA

  • Investing in our infrastructure — roads, bridges, water, and parks

  • Passing essential gun safety measures, including background checks and red flag laws

  • Creating an economy that works for all Texans and their families

But we can only make this progress when we all vote.

So, make sure you're registered to vote and that your registration is up to date before the deadline. This election is too important for any of us to sit out.

Early voting in Texas begins on October 21st. To get even more information about early voting in Dallas County, click here.

What to read with 50 days to go

We're now 50 days from Election Day. And we know what the rest of the campaign will bring because we've already seen it: more lies and conspiracies tossed about recklessly by the far right. We have to respond as we always have — with the truth.

This is a critical moment in American history, and we must rise to meet it.

Senator Johnson has always done that — even when demanding the truth has made others in the Texas Lege uncomfortable. In honor of that spirit, we wanted to highlight our top five favorite articles written by, with, or about Nathan Johnson this month.

Let's look back and see just how much buzz 🐝 we've generated since Nathan set out on the road last month to talk about the things that matter…

With just 50 days to go, here are our TOP 5 MUST READS:

Happy Reading! And thanks for walking down memory lane with us.

Brenda, it's not much of an exaggeration that nothing could be more serious, more important, or more critical for our future than this upcoming election.

Will we turn the page forward, or be forced back in time? Will we be guided by the better angels of our nature, as Abraham Lincoln once urged? Or will we fracture even further, pitting ourselves against our fellow Americans?

It’s that simple Brenda, and the choice is ours.

Our campaign needs your support, now more than ever. For the next 50 days, we’re turning out as many Texas voters who believe that our forward-looking Democratic agenda matters as we can.

Grateful for all the things you do — for our democracy and for your fellow Texans.

— Team Johnson

Keeping it real.

Post by Lani Lappinga, Chief of Staff

I learned a lot about Senator Johnson, traveling with him for work this past month. To start with, he’s terrible at shuffleboard. This key insight came from our staff retreat early last month — where, in addition to planning for the upcoming legislative session and a month full of travel, we all faced off in a shuffleboard battle royale

Fortunately for all of us, Senator Johnson handled his defeat with grace. And even more fortunately, he’s a much better legislator than a shuffleboard player.

I want to share with you what Senator Johnson and his team (us) have been doing in the last month. And I’m going to ask you to chip in a few bucks to help keep us going. If you’re already on board with Senator Johnson making effective policy and putting the working people of Texas first, click here to donate now:

Senator Johnson and I started our post-shuffleboard month on the road at the National Conference of State Legislatures. Nathan and I met with folks from almost all 50 states to learn firsthand how other legislators are working to solve some of the problems we’re also facing here in Texas.

The next stop was Washington, D.C., where Senator Johnson and I joined the world champion Texas Rangers at the White House. Not even a late-summer rainstorm could stop us from celebrating their first World Series victory!

Senator Johnson and I spent the next few days in our nation’s capital sitting down with policy experts and some top Democrats to discuss how to better meet the needs of everyday Texans. And then we headed back to Texas ….

Senator Johnson and I headed out to San Antonio, where he put the importance of water infrastructure and management front and center during the Legislator’s Panel at the Texas Groundwater Summit, hosted by the Texas Alliance of Groundwater.

Then, Nathan joined his Senate Business and Commerce Committee colleagues at the State Capitol for a first-of-its-kind Texas Senate Committee hearing about how best to regulate the use of artificial intelligence.

After that, Senator Johnson was on stage at the Texas Tribune Festival for the bipartisan “The Senate Next Time” panel discussion about the priorities and politics of the Texas Senate’s 89th legislative session. We’ll be emailing you all about their discussion later this month, but needless to say, Senator Johnson didn’t hold his punches over public school funding.

And now, we’re in Denmark for a historic meeting on Energy and Sustainability with colleagues, the U.S. ambassador, and some of Denmark’s top lawmakers and climate innovators.

there’s simply never a dull moment — not when things are this important for the working families of Texas. Everywhere we’ve gone this month — here in Texas, in Washington, and everywhere else — we met incredible people who care deeply about their community and the state of this country. And Senator Johnson listened as they shared their lived experiences, their policy ideas and expertise, and their vision for what we all might achieve here in Texas and beyond.

We need more state leaders like Senator Johnson.

We know that meeting with voters is going to be critical — not just in Nathan’s race, but for the presidency, the U.S. Senate, and every other state and federal office on the ballot. Nathan is determined to help get out the vote — but in a state like Texas, that’s going to take a lot of resources. Can you spare a few bucks before the end of the month to help keep our team gassed up and ready to go?

Thank you for your support, and I hope to see you on the road soon!
